3.4 Communicating assessment results to specific individuals
Communicating assessment results to specific individuals should be done on a regular basis. Reading teachers often share students with other teachers and need to be able to share information in a clear and meaningful way. Sharing assessment results can help teachers work together to provide appropriate and effective instruction for students. It can also prevent a student from completing the same type of test multiple times. This will allow for less time to be spent testing and more time to be spent on instruction. Assessment information also needs to be shared with parents so they are aware of their child’s progress and know what types of things they can help their child work on at home. Another purpose for sharing information is to support instructional decisions being made in the classroom. Administrators need to be knowledgeable of how students are performing, and a good way to keep them informed is to communicate assessment information with them on a regular basis.
The first artifact I chose is a stixy presentation that I completed during a practicum for an assessment class. During this class, I worked with a student and administered many formal and informal assessments. In this presentation, the results for these tests are clearly summarized. I also highlighted some strengths the student had as well as some things that the student could be working on next. The next artifact I chose is a letter to the parent of this same student. The letter describes the results of the assessments and specific information about the student’s accomplishments and abilities without focusing on scores that may not be meaningful to people who are not familiar with the assessments. Lastly, I’ve included a letter to the teacher of this student stating how the student performed on the assessments and things the teacher may want to include when planning upcoming lessons for this student.
